songs I’ve been loving lately

Hello my angels,

I thought I’d do this post since there’s been a lot of new songs out recently that I’ve literally had on repeat non stop, – you know when you play a song so much that you end up hating it within the space of a week? Yeah, that’ll be me in 7 days.

Here are some (newly released) songs that I’ve been absolutely loving lately…

Dua Lipa

This queen released a new (self titled) album back in June but I’ve only just got around to listening to it now, I’ve really gotten into Dua Lipa’s music recently (as in listening to songs of hers that aren’t in the charts) and these are my favourite ones from her new album. Honestly, listen to them. You’re gonna feel so empowered.

IDGAF

Boy been messing you around? Need a song that basically tells him to get lost ’cause you couldn’t care less and you’re better off without him? Ladies, here it is. Honestly, I found this song just after I’d realised a guy had been treating me badly and I was so over it, I must have had this on repeat for a week straight. I played it to my best friend and she was like YES, GIRL. GET IT.

“You say you’re sorry but it’s too late now, so save it, get gone, shut up. ‘Cause if you think I care about you now, well boy, I don’t give a f*ck.”

Last Dance 

Dua Lipa’s voice is so powerful that all of her vocals are just so clear, her songs are ones that you HAVE to play on full blast or you’re doing them an injustice. I think this is my favourite song from the album because the beat in it is so good, every time the song finishes I immediately press replay because the beat is so catchy, I can’t get it out of my head.

“We were built to last, we were built like that, baby take my hand, dive in this romance.
We could burn and crash, we could take a chance, holding nothin’ back like it’s our last dance.”

Homesick

Another one of my favourites, this is something I listen to when I’m sleepy and feeling a bit dreamy thinking of people and life in general, you know, late night thoughts and all that stuff. Her voice is so beautiful, this song just gives off that really dreamy / sad feeling. Nostalgic almost, I love it.

“There’s a crack in my window, a bird in my room, angels all over, that watch over you.
When I’m walking on water, all my dreams have come true, still, nothing means nothing
without you.”

Demi Lovato

Demi has released another insane album, not like I expected anything less but I swear I think she can’t get any better and then every time she just blows my mind. (Did that just rhyme?) I’ve had this on repeat ever since it was released (Sept 29th) and wow, yeah. I just love this girl. She’s so incredible. Here are 3 of my favourites from the album.

You Don’t Do It For Me Anymore

 I feel like this is a really obvious theme for a song but I can’t seem to think of any others that tell a story of no longer wanting to be with someone in the way that Demi does. Before I’d even heard the song and only knew the title I just knew I was going to love it, it came at exactly the right time as well. I love this one so much, Demi’s voice is so powerful and I was really able to channel my emotions through hers in the way that she sang this, her voice is insane.

“I won’t fall for your games, so don’t hate me when I say, that you don’t do it for me anymore, no, you don’t do it for me anymore. I’m sorry for honesty I could not bare to lie to you, to lie with you. I’m sorry for honesty I’m well aware I lie to you, when I lie with you.”

Only Forever

When I’m playing new songs I also like to read the lyrics at the same time so I can really understand what it’s all about and get my head around it, this one was weird for me because it’s on a theme that I don’t think many other songs are based around (or maybe I just can’t think of any), but this song made me think of one person only and I was like… jeez. It was just really relatable and I’m always thankful for songs that you can just listen to and go yeah, that’s how I feel. It sounds almost kind of echoey and spacey which makes it really easy to close your eyes and listen to – it really makes you think.

“I’ve been waiting and I’ll keep waiting, only forever. Yeah, I can tell that you’re terrified to take a shot this strong, should I wait up for you day and night? Just let me know how long.”

Lonely ft. Lil Wayne

 I think this is my favourite from the album, it’s so catchy I’ve literally had it stuck in my head ever since I first heard it. Not so keen on Lil Wayne’s part since you can barely understand what he’s saying but other than that, it’s great. Again, Demi’s voice is so powerful that when she’s really belting it out and almost growling in some parts I’m like YES GIRL. SING. I just love this one so much.

“Now I’m f*cking lonely and you didn’t want me, trying to show me that you didn’t own me but all you do is leave me f*cking lonely, knees on the concrete, cut up and bleeding for no Goddamn reason, but all you do is leave me f*cking lonely.”

PRETTYMUCH

I’m not sure if you guys have heard of this group before (maybe I’m just late to the party) but I discovered them a few days ago and (I think?) they’ve only got two songs – ones that are on Spotify anyway, but I’ve had them on repeat ever since which can get super annoying for everyone else when I have the same two songs constantly on replay…

Would You Mind

 I think I like this so much because A). it’s so, so catchy and B). it literally sounds like the epitome of a 90s boyband in one song. If I didn’t know better I’d probably think NSYNC had reunited and released a new 2017 single. Who doesn’t love a bit of 90s boyband? Teacher

Again, ridiculously catchy. Insanely catchy. Simon Cowell knew what he was doing when he put this band together. It’s one of those songs where you could listen to it a million times and still feel like it isn’t enough because you’re still singing it in your head, I’m actually listening to it right now as I’m typing this and I know it’s going to end up driving me insane however, 10/10 from me. Don’t listen to it if you don’t want it stuck in your head for the next 2 weeks (but actually do, ’cause it’s a really good song).

Billie Eilish

I actually wanted to make a completely separate post on Billie since I’ve fallen head first in love with her down a deep dark hole and I never want to get out, but I’ll just include it all here instead. What an incredible kid, not to mention she’s got the voice of an actual angel. This girl is 15 and literally everything I wanted to be at that age, she’s got this kind of couldn’t care less attitude, you know the whole “I’ve got no feelings, no one can hurt me, everything is f*cked up” kinda vibe, yeah. Obviously it’s not real but the whole aesthetic of it works with her so well and her songs have exactly the same vibe. Definitely the things you’d want to play if you were walking away from a burning building like they do in movies or if you’d just punched the guy who you found out was cheating on you…but anyway…

My Boy

Probably the sassiest song ever (for a lack of better word), it’s really bold and I freakin love it. Full of empowerment and a f*ck you attitude – she literally tells the guy to go and trip over a knife, like if this isn’t the rudest (and best) ‘get the hell away from me’ song you’ve ever heard then you’re wrong. No discussion needed. It’s the song that you didn’t know you needed to hear but when you do, you feel like the baddest bitch ever.

“My boy’s being sus and he don’t know how to cuss, he just sounds like he’s tryna be his father (who are you?) My boy’s an ugly crier but he’s such a pretty liar and by that I mean he said he’d “change.” My boy, my boy, my boy, don’t love me like he promised, my boy, my boy, my boy, he ain’t a man and sure as hell ain’t honest.”

Party Favour

Again, sassy, rude, couldn’t care less kind of song. Makes you feel like a bad bitch and get rid of the guy who isn’t shit basically. Another song you didn’t know you needed to hear, but you do, you really do.

“Stay and blah blah blah, you just want what you can’t have. No wait, I’ll call the cops, if you don’t stop I’ll call your dad, and I hate to do this to you on your birthday, happy birthday, by the way. It’s not you it’s me and all that other bullshit, you know that’s bullshit, don’t you, babe? I’m not your party favour.”

Bellyache

She’s killed her friends and put them in the trunk of her car in this one guys, but I love it so much. She’s basically gone insane and wrote a song about it, and the music video is even better.

“I lost my mind, I don’t mind, where’s my mind? Maybe it’s in the gutter where I left my lover, what an expensive fate. My V is for Vendetta, thought that I’d feel better, but now I got a bellyache.”

Ocean Eyes

If angels could sing this is what they’d sound like, and they’d probably make a song like this. I think this is my favourite song of hers, I close my eyes and listen to it and I’m just transported away to some sort of dreamworld. It’s such a beautiful song, I’m in love with it.

“I’ve been watching you for some time, can’t stop staring at those ocean eyes. Burning cities and napalm skies , fifteen flares inside those ocean eyes, your ocean eyes.”

Miley Cyrus

Miley also released a new album on September 29th and I’ve been looking forward to it for so long, she’s gone back to her country roots and I’m absolutely in love with it, country Miley is my favourite. Here are 3 of my favourite songs from her album ‘Younger Now’.

Thinkin’

This song is so catchy and my favourite upbeat one from the album, I love the guitar in it and it’s got that country twang to it (I’m the worst at describing things I swear). It’s something you just wanna dance to and  you’ll probably have it on repeat for a while, trust me.

“It’s getting late, I’m starting to obsess, you got me cryin’ and lookin’ like a mess. My daddy said, “stay away from such”, but now you got me thinkin’ way too much.”

She’s Not Him

This song is so beautiful, Miley’s voice is so soft and dreamy. It’s one of those songs that you just close your eyes and drift away to, you really take in every single word and you can just hear the emotion in her voice, you feel it. I feel like if you don’t pay attention to the lyrics then you’d have no idea what the song is about and it could really confuse some people, but I really love this one. I’m glad she made it.

“I want to start by saying thank you, I’m gonna miss you, honey. You gave me things you can’t buy back with money, you changed my life, you’ve been my world.”

Inspired

Again, another really beautiful song. One that makes you close your eyes and drift away to somewhere else, it has such a beautiful country sound and makes you think of Miley as who she really is. The lyrics are so beautiful and I get goosebumps every time I listen to this.

“Thinking about the days coming home with dirty feet, from playing with my dad all day in the creek. He somehow has a way of knowing what to say, so when I’m feeling sad, he makes me feel inspired.”

Jaira Burns

Ugly

I found this song when I was scrolling through Youtube and basically the thumbnail of the music video looked super cool, so automatically I clicked to see what it was all about. The song is super funky and kind of risky almost, I’ve listened to it a lot over the past month and so I thought it was worth mentioning here, I don’t think she’s a relatively well known artist (yet) so I thought I’d recommend it as some of you may not have heard it, and it’s definitely worth a listen!

“Sitting in the corner sipping on his gin, must be my good karma, it brought me next to him. He said he like the colour when he look in my eye, his lips are like Nirvana, his kiss is paradise.”

And that’s all I’ve got for now loves! There’s a lot more I could’ve include but I wanted to keep this to recent ones only and some of them are a bit older (either ones that I’ve rediscovered or only just discovered in the first place).
