sundays

Hi loves,

I thought I’d post this as a little mid week inspo for the weekend, here’s a post I wrote a while ago about Sundays, and why they’re so great.

It’s Sunday today. The sun is shining outside and I’m currently sat here writing this as my family stand in the kitchen making breakfast as old love songs from the radio play out in the background. I don’t usually like Sundays, I feel like when they arrive I just think about all of the bad feelings I have towards them – I have work tomorrow, I have to get up early tomorrow, it’s Monday tomorrow, I can’t stay up late tonight, I don’t get a lie in tomorrow etc.

I find it incredibly hard to sleep on Sunday nights, I feel like I’m always missing something and therefore can’t sleep. Some nights I physically cannot sleep until around 5am (keeping in mind I have to wake up at 7) and even within those 2 hours of ‘sleep’ I still end up waking up every 30 minutes, making me wonder if I ever even slept at all. I wake up feeling so, so ill. I simply can’t do a full 9-5 day at work on 2 hours rest but I do anyway. One Monday I thought I was going to pass out and the second I got home at half past 5 I went straight to bed and slept all the way through until Tuesday morning. I don’t know why Sundays have turned into this horrible ordeal for me, as they never used to be this way…but now they are.

I feel like Sundays should be something beautiful and I forget that a lot of the time, Sundays are clear blue skies, birds singing, the breeze drifting in softly through the window…it is a day to reflect, relax, think about the week that’s passed and the week that lies ahead. It is a time to read, write, draw, paint, create art and simply just spend the day in your element, doing whatever it is that makes you happy.

Here are some of my favourite things to do on Sundays…♡

lying in
Sundays are a day of rest, have a lie in! Sleep in until you’re woken by the rays of sunlight peeping through your blinds, or the sound of rain pitter pattering on your window. Today is supposed to be stress free, so you shouldn’t be rushing around early or trying to get somewhere on time, enjoy your extra snooze.

catching up on the internet
I always spend my Sundays catching up on everything I’ve missed on the internet that week – Youtube is a must, I always watch all the videos I didn’t have chance to so that I’m caught up with everything for the week ahead. I also spend this time catching up on the news and everything that’s happened on WordPress. Obviously I catch up with everything on here daily, but on Sundays I have extra time to discover new posts, blogs etc. and work on new content for the following week.

catching up on TV / episodes
This kind of ties in with the above point but, catch up with the latest TV! In the week I don’t always have time to watch everything I want to, either because I’m not at home or just generally busy. Sundays are a great chance to catch up on any episodes you may have missed or anything that was generally on TV that week that you thought looked interesting. Most of my Sundays are spent like this!

pamper / self care
I never really find myself having any drastic plans on a Sunday, so I always take this time to have a pamper / self care day. I can really take the time to do a full pamper routine with the knowledge that I don’t have to be anywhere or necessarily even leave the house at any point, so yes, I’m perfectly justified to walk around with a face mask on for 12 hours. (Obviously don’t actually do this because I’m pretty sure that’s not a good idea but you get the point).  I can stay in the bath for 2 hours, let my hair air dry and walk around in my fluffy dressing gown. It also means a no makeup day!

sunday dinner
Sorry. Had to include this, we all know how much I love food. My favourite part of a Sunday is absolutely the giant roast dinner my Dad cooks for us, a Sunday simply wouldn’t be complete without it. It’s also a great chance to go to the pub or a restaurant for some good hearty food, it’s what Sundays are all about! Eating with your whole family is kind of a tradition on a Sunday, which ties in with my next point of…

family time
Sundays are a great chance to spend quality time with your family – whether that’s over food or just generally having a catch up on the week, it’s a great opportunity to see everyone that you maybe didn’t have chance to spend time with in the week.

cleaning my room / fresh clothes
Sundays are also a great day for having a good old tidy up! Clean out your room, re-organise your wardrobe, put some fresh new sheets on your bed and hang up your freshly washed clothes ready for next week. It’s a great chance to make everything new, ready for Monday.

getting organised for Monday
Super important – use this time to get ready for the week ahead! Prepare your lunches / meals for the following week, make sure all of the things (e.g. books) that you need are in your bag ready for tomorrow. Lay out outfits that you’re planning on wearing – the simplest things like deciding on your outfit the night before can save so much time when it comes to the Monday morning rush. Relieve yourself of some stress!

creating / art
Last but not least (and in my eyes, the most important) – create. Create until you simply can’t create anymore. Lie on the floor in a baggy t-shirt with paint and paper scattered around you and just create. Write whatever’s on your mind – use this time to really work on yourself and explore your creative and artistic needs. You’ll thank yourself for it, I promise.

And there we have it loves! I was originally going to post this on a Sunday and then I thought no, that’s too predictable (and you guys know me so….) happy Wednesday!

All my love,

Chloe .xx

  1. Love this post so much 💜 It’s really beautiful. When I was doing my internship and had to work all week, Sunday would also be a day of relaxing, sleeping in and organise myself for the week. Sunday was also a day sometimes of feeling that anxiety of a new week of work again…. so it depends how I was feeling.

  3. I get a lot of anxiety on Sunday’s, because being at school is so hard for me and Sunday is the day before going back. Some Sundays are easier than others, but they’re always hard in general. I wish I could take back control and make Sunday good again for me, but it hasn’t been like that for years and I don’t think I can change it 😦

    1. This is how I used to feel but honestly you can change it!! Just implement small little things into your Sundays so that you end up looking forward to them, or plan things on that day so you can take your mind off it! Always here if you need lovely xx

  4. Beautifully said! I adore Sundays because they really do deliver the perfect opportunity to get in the correct mindset for the week ahead, catch up on anything you’ve missed, and of course family time is one of my favourite things about them. Well done for focusing on the positives because Sundays really can be made into one of the best days of the week! Xox

  5. I think because I’m not in school and don’t work a 9-5 job, I’ve never had a problem with Sundays! Or Mondays for that matter. I’m always in a slump on Thursdays though and I think I’m definitely going to start treating myself to a lil spa time those days.

  6. I love this post SO DAMN MUCH. I can almost painfully relate to the first part too; Sunday used to be this really horrible day that almost wasn’t a weekend to me. I just saw it as “oh, great, school/work tomorrow yay” and to put off going to school I’d just stay awake as long as possible. But last year I started something to try “reclaim” sundays – basically exactly what you said: SOUL FOOD DAY. Sleep in, self-care, tidy up, do some writing . . . and now Sunday is one of my favourite days of the week!xx
