4 things I want to educate myself on this year

Hi loves,

Not long ago, I made a post on my personal goals for 2018 and today I thought I’d expand on that. I really want 2018 to be a year of personal growth for me, I’m sure you’ve all heard the quote “the best project you’ll ever work on is yourself” and we all have to keep that in mind, right? I really want to educate myself this year and just learn things – really expand my knowledge further and become a lot more clued up on everything I’m interested in.

So, without further ado, here are 4 things I want to educate myself on this year…

Astrology

I already started working on this one during the end of last year actually, I’ve always been in love with the universe, the cosmos, the moon, the sun, the stars – astrology, whatever you wanna call it. I’m obsessed with it and find it so incredibly interesting, and I really wanted to educate myself on it! I’d purchased some second hand astrology / horoscope books ages ago but had never gotten around to reading them, they’d just been sitting on my shelf the whole time. Late last year I thought right, I’m gonna start learning now – so I got out my laptop and my books, sat at my desk and just wrote and wrote until 3am. I was copying everything down, replicating the drawings, just figuring everything out and it was honestly so fun. The notebook I used was just a spare one I had lying around but I really want to get a space themed one because as I’ve mentioned before, all of my journals are individual and relate to one specific thing – this one being astrology! It’s definitely something I want to keep working on this year, because I just love talking about it so much.

Feminism

If you guys know me (which you do), you know I’m a feminist forever – I will literally defend women (all women) ’til the day I die. Obviously, the force of social media and the internet has literally taken feminism up by 32423403403% and I’m absolutely living for it, I love the movement so much. On a scale of 1-10 I’d say I was about a 6.5 when it comes to knowledge on feminsim, I know my stuff enough to defend myself and hold a conversation, but I could still learn a lot more. I really want to go into the history of it and even things such as every day sexism, because I know there are still things going on around me that I’m unaware are sexist and so on, and I also want to educate myself so I can stand up for others too, girls support girls.

Learning Spanish

I’ve wanted to learn Spanish for the longest time now, I studied it when I was at school but obviously that was compulsory and so at the time I never really paid that much attention (none of us did) – I was in the top set but I only studied it for around 2 years before I moved schools, and at my new place they didn’t offer languages as a subject. I remember a couple of phrases but that’s about it and they’d probably be grammatically incorrect anyway so, let’s just say I’m not the best at it…

I started Spanish on Duolingo about a year ago and I was learning quite a lot, but then I got super busy and basically just let the whole thing slip – I’ve started back up again now though and this time I’m determined to stick to it. I’m aware that obviously Duolingo alone is not going to be able to make me fluent in Spanish, but it’s a starting point, right? Any tips or suggestions of Spanish TV shows etc. that I could watch would be greatly welcomed – I know some of you who read my blog are Spanish (and amazingly fluent in English) so any help would be greatly appreciated!!

My obsession for learning Spanish started back up again recently because I discovered the K-Pop group BTS, and when I say discovered, I mean actually took the time to see what the hype was about because I’ve never been into K-Pop or listened to any of the music before etc. – I’ve just never took any interest in it. Someone RT’d a member of BTS onto my timeline on Twitter the other day and I was like okay, I’ve been hearing about these guys everywhere for years now and I just don’t understand what the big deal is, let me check them out.

Update: I now understand what the big deal is.

*rant incoming (scroll past this if you don’t wanna hear me yell about K-Pop)*

What have I been doing my whole life? I thought K-Pop was this weird phase thing that teenage girls were interested in and I never really took the time to actually look into it but now that I have, I can totally see where everyone is coming from. IT’S THE BEST THING EVER. Let’s not beat around the bush here, Korean boys are the most ethereal, beautiful beings I’ve ever seen. What’s the deal with that. I’ve never taken a slight bit of notice before because obviously, I don’t see that many (I don’t think I’ve ever seen any) Korean people during my day to day life, and I’ve never had any reason to Google them or look at them etc. but holy shit they’re magical. I’m just captivated. I kind of sat there in silence for a good 10 minutes just watching these BTS videos wondering why I hadn’t bothered to look into them sooner, and then I started listening to the music and I was like ?!?!!?! Fair enough I haven’t got THE faintest idea what the hell they’re saying, but that doesn’t mean it still doesn’t sound good. (Jungkook’s vocals anyone?????????) and then I started watching their live performances and…….THE DANCING???? I’ve never seen anything performed so perfectly in sync in my life. I don’t believe they’re real, everything about them all is too perfect to be real, it’s just a conspiracy to ruin everyone’s lives and have K-Pop take over the world (note: it’s working). Not to mention the fact they all seem absolutely hilarious (thank you Lord for subtitles) but even when they’re speaking English (RM is the only one in the group that can fluently speak English so he basically just translates everything for the others, otherwise they just sit there staring into space which is hilarious in itself) they’re still funny as hell and basically (I will actually get to my point in a minute) I was just sat there like…I wanna be a part of this. I WANNA KNOW WHAT’S GOING ON. Because obviously, when RM isn’t speaking English and there’s no subtitles, I haven’t got the slightest idea. There’s just loads of laughing and shocked faces and messing around and I’m like….let me in on the joke guys.

So yeah, I basically just felt useless and thought you know what, I’m gonna get my ass back into gear and learn Spanish (I know Spanish and Korean have no relation whatsoever but it’s the thought that counts okay) and so here I am now, trying to become the next Spanish leader (that was a joke, I’m quite happy being an English citizen).

It’s been a crazy few days.

Also, back to the BTS rant – I could just be speaking into the void here and you’re all sat reading this like Chloe…what the hell. Because I don’t know if any of you guys even like K-Pop as I’ve never had any reason to ask (until now) and I’m also aware that BTS is probably the most obvious / popular band to start with but I’m new to this and I will eventually start broadening my horizons, I just wanna appreciate Korea okay. OKAY.

So in other words, if you’re Spanish or like K-Pop (or both!!) LET’S TALK.

Starting My Book

And last but not least (sorry for going on a massive tangent above I got carried away) starting / publishing my book! I have a post coming up soon about this so all will be revealed shortly, but I basically have no idea where to start on this one and so I need to get myself clued up on the dos and dont’s, which tools to use, pricing etc. I’m not planning on selling my book (because let’s be honest who would buy it right now) but I just wanted to create something for myself that I could hold in my hands and be like hey, I did this, so I need to start working on that asap and get myself clued up!

And that’s all I’ve got for now loves! (I always use too many exclamation marks and brackets someone please stop me). If you have any advice / tips / suggestions etc. on anything that I’ve mentioned here please let a sista know and I will be forever grateful. Let me know what you want to educate yourself on this year! (another exclamation mark I am so sorry)

All my love,

Chloe .xx

  1. I’d love to know more about feminism because it’s a very interesting and important topic these days!
I have had Spanish at school for 4 years now and I absolutely love it! I personally think that it’s quite easy to learn as there isn’t as much grammer as in French for example. Good luck with all of your goals! 💖xx

  2. Oh my gosh! I’m so glad you’re starting to like KPOP!! Do have any favourite groups? BTS are amazing! I love all of them but at the moment I like Jin, V and JHope. Who’s your bias? I’m so glad to have found another KPOP buddy! 😀

  3. Great goals! We were learning Spanish on Duolingo too but we kind of just stopped because we were so busy. Keep us updated on how you get on with it xx

  4. YESSSS TO KPOP GIRL! Ahhh, I’m so genuinely excited to see someone who’s interested in it, I think you’re the first blogger I follow who has shown interest in it! My ultimate group is EXO. I highly suggest looking into girl groups as well, Red Velvet is my absolute favorite. ☺️ you should definitely watch them on variety shows, I think BTS has many appearances, you really get to know them and see how funny and cute they are. On another note, good luck in accomplishing all of your goals this year! It’d be cool to see posts about your progress throughout the year also, if you’re okay with sharing of course.

    1. Aaaaah yes !!! I haven’t ever seen any other bloggers talk about it so I was kind of like…does anyone here even like it?! I’ve heard of EXO and Red Velvet actually!! Will deffo check those out, I tried SHINee who I like, though I was devastated that I only found out about them through the recent heartbreaking events. Also tried Got7 but still none of them are living up to BTS for me at the minute! (I can see why they’re so popular). I’ve literally just been binge watching BTS vids on Youtube, especially the American interviews, I love how SO many people make the different video / meme edits on them as well, it’s weird how you can really get to know their individual personalities even though I can’t understand what they’re saying and can only read the subtitles, I don’t feel like the language barrier is a problem at all which was really an eye opener for me. Thank you for reading! I will definitely share progress (if I end up making any) haha – fingers crossed! xx

      1. Ahhh, that’s how I feel whenever I bring up kpop… but it’s definitely been getting more attention lately, which is awesome & well-deserved! And I definitely agree about the language barrier, although I do wish I could sing the songs at the top of my lungs. 😅

        1. Extremely well deserved I agree, I’m sad that it’s taken my this long to really take notice of it! I wish I could sing them too hahah, it’s like I’m memorising sounds instead of the actual words themselves because obviously, I don’t know what they are. Translations have been my life saver!

  5. I love the universe and astrology so so so much!!!! 😍🌠I also am a feminist and we should always defend our women rights. There is still so many violence against women. You know I’m half Spanish haha so I will learn you some Spanish. I love this language so much. My mother learned me Spanish. Qué tal Chloe? Eres una chica muy guapa y simpática. Un fuerte abrazo desde España 😍 Good luck with your book 💪

  7. OH MY GOODNESS THIS ALL SOUNDS AMAZING! I’m super excited to see more about all of these things. And omg nope, K-Pop is NOT a hole I’m falling down; I was almost sucked in a couple of years ago (watch CL’s Hello Bitches – SO GOOD) for all the reasons you mentioned (no srsly though how genuinely perfect are korean guys i cant even) but im staying strong! And oh sweet JESUS I cannoto wait for you to release a book! Can I read it? Pls? xxxxx

    1. Deffo gonna add that to the list – hopefully I’ll only fall down the deep dark pit of despair into BTS rather than K-Pop as a whole because honestly, my heart can’t take it. Ever since I’ve seen these Korean guys I’m literally finding no one else attractive because they just don’t compare 😭 YES YOU CAN READ IT GIRL xxxx

  8. My best friend and I are actually planning on getting tattoos of our zodiac signs because as Taurus and Scorpio we feel like we have a special connection, us being on the opposite ends of the zodiac wheel and everything. She’s actually the one that got me into astrology and showed me that there’s more to it than reading crappy horoscopes in magazines. You mentioning astrology actually gave me a really cool collab idea, maybe I could email you about it to discuss it some more?

And as for the book – GO GIRL! That is so freaking exciting like wow. Can’t wait to read all about it in one of your next posts! This actually makes me want to continue one I started about a year ago, but like the self-critical human being I am, I stopped writing mid-way through. But whatever you do, please please please post some exerts of your book once it’s done! Knowing how wonderful your writing is on this blog I can only imagine how incredible a book from you would be. xxx

    1. One of my next tattoos I have coming up is actually my zodiac symbol !! (Aquarius) – that’s such a great idea for a joint tattoo. I think a lot of the time people do just think that horoscopes begin and end with fabricated columns in women’s weekly magazines and it’s really not when you actually look into the scientific side of it – the real side of it. Definitely get started back on your book girl !! I wanna read it! You’re an incredible writer and you NEED to believe in yourself – get that thing finished! You are so lovely and thank you so much for your kind words as always – definitely drop me an email about that collab idea!! xxx

  9. Oh I love astrology too and I’m a huge believer in horoscopes and such. Writing a book is always a great idea but actually starting it is a big mission hey – go on Pinterest for inspiration on how to write ☄. Great post love xox. It’s a good thing that you are educating yourself 💖

  10. I have no idea what it’s even going to be about, but pleaseeeee send me a copy of your book – I have to read it!! The amount of books I’ve started and not finished is ridiculous, I’m desperate to create one, hats off to you for finishing one!

Really lovely post as always, I’d love for you to do an astrology post as it’s something I want to educate myself more on to, but have no idea where to start xx

    1. Hahahaha I’m a sucker for that but only because I get excited about so many books and then try to read them all at once !! I will definitely do an astrology post for beginners if that’s something you’d like to see, it can be super confusing at times!! xxx
