Taylor Swift is giving off metal vibes again with the 'folklore ...

Oh. My goodness.

HOW MANY TIMES ON THIS BLOG HAVE I COMPLAINED ABOUT THE FACT THAT I LOVE T SWIFT’S OLD MUSIC AND MISS IT SO MUCH AND WISH SHE WOULD GO BACK TO IT / MAKE MORE OF IT AGAIN.

AND THEN SHE DID. SHE GAVE US FOLKLORE. I’M SO HAPPY.

I’ve been waiting for this since 1989 ๐Ÿ˜ญ GUYS. (the album, 1989…not the year. just to clarify).

It’s no secret that ever since Taylor stopped making her older kind of music I’ve always longed for her to go back to it because I think that was her at her best. That’s absolutely not to say that I think you shouldn’t expand and change and try new things but…if I’m being selfish her new pop music just didn’t do it for me and I was so sad because it felt like she’d never go back to that old country-type era, like she’d grown out of it and thought it wasn’t a good selling point and so was trying to appeal to a bigger audience to stay relevant in the pop charts etc. I don’t like to add to this idea that there was an old Taylor and a new Taylor because she’s been the same person always, but nevertheless music wise, there is a line between what seems to be old and new.

So the second she announced this album was called folklore I knew instantly that my prayers had been answered. A whole hourย of old Taylor Swift with the most beautiful thought out lyrics I’ve ever heard. I just have to talk about this for a second because (!!!) every song feels so important, delicate and meaningful. My two favourites are the last great american dynasty and betty and I also really love the 1, seven, august and invisible string. I’m just so happy because I’ve wanted her to do this ever since Red (one of the greatest albums of all time fight me on it)ย and now she has! The songs are a little maturer now which is natural since she’s progressed and grown over time, but this is what I think has been missing and now she’s given it to us and blessed our ears. Thank you T Swift.

Here are some of my favourite lyrics from these masterpieces.

๐Ÿ‚

the 1

But we were something, don’t you think so? Roaring twenties, tossing pennies in the pool. And if my wishes came true, it would’ve been you.

We never painted by the numbers baby but we were making it count, you know the greatest loves of all time are over now.

cardigan

A friend to all is a friend to none, chase two girls, lose the one.

But I knew you, playing hide and seek and giving me your weekends.

You drew stars around my scars.

I knew you tried to change the ending, Peter losing Wendy.

the last great american dynasty

There goes the maddest woman this town has ever seen, she had a marvellous time ruining everything.

Holiday House sat quietly on that beach free of women with madness, their men and bad habits…and then it was bought by me.

exile ft. bon iver

You’re not my homeland anymore, so what am I defending now?

I can see you staring honey, like he’s just your understudy.

I’m not your problem anymore, so who am I offending now?

So step right out, there is no amount of crying I can do for you.

my tears ricochet

Even on my worst day, did I deserve babe, all the hell you gave me?

And if I’m dead to you, why are you at the wake?

Cursing my name, wishing I stayed, look at how my tears ricochet.

You know I didn’t want to have to haunt you but what a ghostly scene, you wear the same jewels that I gave you as you bury me.

I didn’t have it in myself to go with grace, ’cause when I’d fight you used to tell me I was brave.

mirrorball

I’m still trying everything to get you laughing at me, I’m still a believer but I don’t know why. I’ve never been a natural, all I do is try, try, try.

seven

I hit my peak at seven, feet in the swing over the creek. I was too scared to jump in but I, I was high in the sky with Pennsylvania under me. Are there still beautiful thing?

Your braids like a pattern, love you to the Moon and to Saturn.

And I’ve been meaning to tell you, I think your house is haunted. Your dad is always mad and that must be why, I think you should come live with me and we can be pirates, then you won’t have to cry.

august

August slipped away into a moment in time, ’cause it was never mine. August sipped away like a bottle of wine, ’cause you were never mine.

Your back beneath the sun, wishing I could write my name on it. Will you call when you’re back at school?

Canceled plans just in case you’d call and say “meet me behind the mall”. So much for Summer love and saying “us”, ’cause you weren’t mine to lose.

this is me trying

I didn’tโ€…knowโ€…if you’d careโ€…if I came back, I have a lot of regrets about that.

And it’s hard to be at a party when I feel like an open wound, it’s hard to be anywhere these days when all I want is you.

illicit affairs

And you wanna scream don’t call me “kid” don’t call me “baby”, look at this godforsaken mess that you made me.

You showed me colours you know I can’t see with anyone else, don’t call me “kid” don’t call me “baby”, look at this idiotic fool that you made me.

You taught me a secret language I can’t speak with anyone else and you know damn well for you, I would ruin myself a million little times.

invisible string

Bold was the waitress on our three-year trip getting lunch down by the lakes, she said I looked like an American singer.

Time, mystical time, cutting me open then healing me fine.

Cold was the steel of my axe to grind for the boys who broke my heart, now I send their babies presents.

Hell was the journey but it brought me heaven.

Time, wondrous time, gave me the blues and then purple-pink skies, and it’s cool, baby with me.

mad woman

Whatโ€…do you sing on your drive home? Do you see my face in the neighbour’s lawn?

Every time you call me crazy, I get more crazy. What about that?

It’s obvious that wanting me dead has really brought you two together.

I’m taking my time, taking my time, ’cause you took everything from me.

epiphany

Something med school did not cover, someone’s daughter, someone’s mother, holds your hand through plastic now, “doc I think she’s crashing out”. And some things you just can’t speak about.

betty

Betty, I won’t make assumptions about why you switched your homeroom but I think it’s ’cause of me.

The worst thing that I ever did, was what I did to you.

I’m only seventeen, I don’t know anything, but I know I miss you.

Slept next to her, but I dreamt of you all Summer long.

Betty, right now is the last time I can dream about what happens when you see my face again.

peace

As long asโ€…danger is near, and it’s just around the corner darling, ’cause it lives in me, no, I could never give you peace.

All these people think love’s for show but I would die for you in secret.

Your integrity makes me seem small, you paint dreamscapes on the wall.

I’d give you my sunshine, give you my best, but the rain is always gonna come if you’re standing with me.

Give you my wild, give you a child, give you the silence that only comes when two people understand each other.

hoax

Don’tโŸwant no otherโŸshade of blueโŸbut you, no other sadness in the world would do.

๐Ÿ‚

I think we should all collectively cry about this together in the comments (aka, let me know your favourite songs)

All my love,

Chloe .xx

It’s been weeks and I’m still so obsessed with folklore OMG. All of the songs are just so magical and beautiful….from the very first time I listened, my favorites were immediately seven and the last great american dynasty. I still LOVE both of those but now I also really love cardigan and hoax….agh, why don’t I just say that I can’t choose a favorite?! I actually ordered the cardigan from her merch store too…that’s how obsessed I am ๐Ÿ˜ญ

I woke up that Friday morning, getting ready for work when I remembered that Taylor dropped an album a few hours prior. I opened up Spotify (I’m on my friend’s plan coz I’m broke) and started listening to it, and I was captivated. The first song, The 1, is probably my favourite song. I don’t know why. It’s just… so good! The entire album is great. I’ve been having trouble fully listening to albums, but I was able to get through this one a few times. As I began listening to it, I just smiled and thought to myself, “Chloe’s gonna love this.” Looks like I was right, haha.

I kind of fell in love with the 1 after the fact, I think because it was the first track on the album so I forgot about it as I was busy with the others and then when I’d picked out my favourites I went back and listened to it and was like oh my goodness, I love this SO much. So glad you love this one as much as me (the fact you thought of me when you listened makes me so happy!!) ๐Ÿ’žxx

The whole album is beautiful ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ On its first day of release, if you search Philippines Top 50 on Spotify, the first 16 on top are all songs from folklore ๐Ÿฅฐ

I was never a huge Taylor Swiftโ€™s fan but I used to really like Red! This album feels different and I am pleasantly surprised by it. Iโ€™ve listened to a few songs but I will definitely listen to the entire thing. I love that you put some of your favorite lyrics!

I’m not a HUGE TSwift fan to begin with, but I’ve heard most of every album and have enjoyed the occasional bop through the years. The National is one of my favorite bands (I immediately saw its influence, Cardigan especially could literally be a National song) and one of the members helped Swift write the album and I’m also a huge fan of Justin Vernon/Bon Iver. I’m listening to the album currently and it’s okay, nothing “wow” (I don’t think her voice is deep enough to properly pull of this genre) but I agree, it’s definitely getting back to her roots! I appreciate her trying something new.

I’m glad you like it! Even if it’s not really your thing. I think this will definitely appeal her to a wider audience than any of her pop albums would, which is ironic really considering I think that was the whole reason she made them in the first place .xx

When Taylor surprised all of us with Folklore, I was like… damn, I’m stanning the right person!! Geeeeez! I’m so happy with all the songs in the album! My favorite one for now would be Exile because Taylor Swift + Bon Iver = MY DREAM COME TRUE! โค Aaaaah! I'm still so hyped just talking about this! x

THIS WHOLE ALBUM IS BY FAR MY FAVORITE OF HERS!!! The vibes. The aesthetic. The writing and lyrics. It made me fall in love with Taylor, that’s for sure! I always enjoyed her music but I wasn’t super involved in her music, but now I’m all in!!

I’ve never been a Taylor Swift fan, but that was mostly because the world tends to hate on anything women collectively love and I had the same crap ingrained into my brain, but if I’m honest with myself, I actually really enjoyed Red and 1989! So I’m looking forward to listening to this album, especially because you mentioned she’s back in her element (the newer albums had lost a little of her touch, very true)!

Yesssss! I was so excited when I learned about her new album, and thrilled when I saw the cover art and thought, โ€œThis could be it!โ€ It didnโ€™t look angry, and it didnโ€™t look experimental. It just looked lovely and artsy and I was so thankful for another chance to love her. And then I got to listen and OH MY GOSH I love it so much. I know my favourites will change with time (they always do as I go deeper) but right now, in these early moments, as we celebrate this glorious feast day of St Taylor, Iโ€™m leaning toward the 1, Mirrorball, and This is Me Trying as early leads.
    Sigh.
    So happy.

Right, exactly !! The second I saw the cover art I was like…it’s here. The thing we’ve been waiting for. This is the sound we’ve been wanting !! You could just tell straight away, and I was so excited we didn’t have to wait long before getting to hear it! I don’t think I could’ve handled that haha. She lived up to every expectation I had, this album was everything I wanted it to be and more. So glad we can share this happiness together hehe, I think she’s brought a lot of joy to people with this album!! xx

I have always felt the same way as you. Red is, and probably always will be, my favourite album of hers as I believe it is when she truly found her sound. I am not sure whether her tastes in music changed or she changed her taste in music to appease her new-found popularity but I am so glad that she is going back to her roots and making her old style music again. I have yet to listen to the entire album (need to find an hour to just lie there and listen to it) but what I have heard, I love. I am so excited to buy a physical copy of the album and find all her secret messages in the lyric books again and really pour over the lyrics and understand the meaning behind the song. Because nobody tells a story quite like Taylor Swift. xx

Red will always be my favourite of hers too, I think she completely peaked there because it’s just such a masterpiece of an album, true art. I’m inclined to believe she changed her style to fit what everyone else wanted and to stay relevant for longer…which is crazy to me because she’ll always be relevant due to her talent. I’m so glad that for this album she’s just written it because she simply loves music and writing songs, I think it’s the best version of herself. So much better than pop hits trying to top the charts. I want a physical copy of the album too – I remember flipping through the lyrics booklets with my friends when we were younger trying to find all of the hidden messages and getting so excited about it. She truly is magical and you’re right, no one tells a story quite like Taylor Swift .xx
