Boa Vista, Cape Verde – Photo Diary ☼

Hi loves,

I’m back from Cape Verde !! I’m tanned (and sunburnt, but we won’t talk about that), feeling refreshed and ready to get back into the blogging world. I still have a couple more days off until I go back to work but I couldn’t resist not posting until then (apologies if you were enjoying my absence)

So anyway like I said, I went to Boa Vista in Cape Verde for the week, which is basically like an island off the coast of West Africa (?). Now, Cape Verde (from what I can gather) is pretty new to the whole tourist attraction thing therefore everywhere is pretty much barren apart from the couple of hotels across the island. The airport is literally outside (and super cool may I add, nothing too fancy or technical) and our hotel was a 30 minute bus journey away. During this 30 minutes we saw absolutely nothing and I mean nothing, it was basically barren desert land – the roads aren’t tarmac, rather just gravel pathways (which proves for a bumpy coach journey) and there’s literally no other vehicles, people etc. for miles. Like I said, there was just nothing.

Our hotel was basically a kingdom, if you like. It was practically its own city. It had over 1000 rooms and 3000+ guests staying there at any one time so you can imagine how big it was (so easy to get lost), because of the barren land surrounding it (at night you could look out from your balcony and it was just darkness, as in, not a single light or building was visible for miles, we really were in the middle of nowhere) you couldn’t leave the hotel because there was nowhere to go, there was just nothing. However, like I said, our hotel was pretty much its own city (5 star all inclusive kingdom with wifi and entertainment) so you didn’t need to go anywhere outside of the hotel.

Basically what I’m saying here is that all of these photos were taken inside the hotel perimeter (which was probably a good 2 miles from one end to the other) so if you’re expecting pictures of the culture and life of Cape Verde…be prepared to be disappointed.

Anyway, excuses out of the way (that was a long ramble of an excuse right) let’s get on with these photos…
