Music of the Month – July & August

Hi angels,

Welcome to August’s (and delayed July’s) music post! I did create a music post for July but felt like I didn’t have enough to talk about and now August has come along I’ve got too much to talk about. So, let’s get the big ones out of the way first.

Ariana Grande – Sweetener

YOU KNEW THIS WAS COMING. I feel like I have too much to say about this album to even try and write coherent sentences about it but basically, I feel like I’ve been waiting for this album for a million years and finally it’s here and I’m screaming and yelling and playing it over and over again on repeat. It did not disappoint (not like we were expecting it to but you know). It was so worth the wait. This album is so different from anything Ari’s done before and to me it feels the realest she’s ever been, it’s so raw and natural and sweet and I’m so happy she’s creating the things that she wants to rather than conforming to the pressure of creating number one hit singles (though this album and the songs on it are still creating history anyway so she’s killing the game either way). I just love everything about it, the whole vibe is so great and I’ve never heard music like it before but I love it, so much. I think this album may have to be my favourite out of all of them. My favourites (not in order because I can’t choose) are R.E.M., successful and get well soon – in terms of singing along, R.E.M. is my favourite, in terms of listening (as a bop), successful is my favourite and in terms of lyrics and feeling, get well soon is my favourite. I knew this song was going to kill me the second she released the title for it because I just thought…whatever this song is, it’s going to hurt me, and it did. But it’s also happy at the same time. It makes me teary eyed whenever I hear it and it’s always the part where she says “Where are you, are you home? Just call me right on the phone, I’ll be there.” that gets me choked up, because she means it and she’s with me and yeah I don’t know. I love her. I love this album. The world needs it. The world needs her. I’m so glad she exists and I’m so glad I love and support her. She’s the best.

Ariana Grande – God is a woman

I had to write about this one on it’s own because well…wow. Can we say song of the century?

Of course this was going to be first on the list. I honestly have no words anymore to describe how much love I have for this woman, she is honestly my saviour and guiding light. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again but Ari’s music and voice makes me feel like I’m in another universe. I can’t think of a word that’s good enough to describe the way it makes me feel. This song is so, so, important, so empowering, so needed and I have so much love for this incredible angel, I’m so proud to support her. God is a motherfucking woman.

BTS – Love Yourself Answer

When they announced this was coming out I was dying inside because I was just so excited. There’s 7 new tracks on this album and they absolutely did not disappoint. The rap line killed it. I was screaming. Yoongi, Hoseok & Joon all singing? I was deceased. Deceased I tell you. Each time they bring music out I think they can’t possibly get any better but oh no, they’ve really outdone themselves this time. It’s been on replay ever since it was released and I think Trivia; Dance has to be one of my new favourite BTS songs ever, all of them just did so well (as always). Like really, were we expecting them to release songs that were anything less than amazing? Think again. The rap line are the shining stars here for me (because wow, listen to that) but I will also say I’m so happy we got full length versions of Serendipity and Singularity (also Jin you did amazing sweetie) and I’m so glad we got Euphoria too, ever since it was played in the Theme for Love Yourself, Wonder video I was like wow, I need this in my life – and now it’s in my life and life is great. Thanks. I love these guys so much, I’m so proud and happy for them my heart could burst. These people are what you call artists.

consequences – camila cabello

This song has the most beautiful lyrics and just really hit me. One thing I love about Camila is (not sure if I’ve said this before) the fact that you can really feel what she’s singing – you believe it. This song is beautiful and very hard hitting, I feel like a lot of people are able to relate to it. I know I can.

Also been loving – Real Friends, Into It & Something’s Gotta Give.

don’t slow me down – chris brown*

So I have something I just wanted to say here, a little confession maybe (idk) – I really love Chris Brown’s music, as in, I’m obsessed and pretty much know all the words to every song. Without going into excessive detail he’s kind of a ‘guilty pleasure’ for lack of better wording, as I don’t condone his actions therefore I always feel guilty for supporting his music as such, however, it seems as though those involved have forgiven him and moved on from the situation therefore I must do the same. But still, I feel guilty about promoting him (as such). Just needed to get that off my chest, but anyway, this and the following song are massive bops.

self control – frank ocean

Frank is the love of my life and that’s all that needs to be said about this I think. Self Control is my favourite from Blond. I cry every time.

nights – frank ocean

Again – no explanation needed. I this is probably one of the best songs ever created. I love him so much.

get you – daniel caesar ft kali uchis

I feel like this song is probably very over mentioned at this point (like seriously, who hasn’t included this in a music post) but I just had to. There’s a reason it’s talked about so much! I rediscovered it again recently and remembered how much I liked it.

wonder woman – kacey musgraves

You may remember I mentioned this lovely lady in my other music post and well, I forgot to mention this song so hi. Here you go. Enjoy the wonder that is Kacey Musgraves.

feels like summer – childish gambino

If you know me even a little bit then you know this was 100% gonna be on here. I love Gambino with my life. His whole vibe is so nostalgic and this video is and song are no exception – he’s so woke it blows my mind. I think this might have to be one of my favourites of his.

dance to this – troye sivan ft. ariana grande

It took me a while to get into this song (at first I wasn’t really feeling it) but now I literally have it on repeat. IT’S SO GOOD. Why it took me so long to vibe with it I don’t know, but fear not, I’ve come to my senses now and I love it. Look at these cuties wow my heart is so FULL.

i need a girl – trey songz

I literally found this song through listening to Jimin’s playlist and was surprised I hadn’t heard it before (though it did come out in 2009 when I was literally 12 years old lol) but anyway, I VIBE WITH IT.

tendae – bobby

This song goes HARD. At first I thought there were two different people on this track but no, this guy really is covering it all. This has been on repeat all month, I’m obsessed.

instagram – dean

Lil song about Insta which 1). just sounds really cute and also the lyrics are really relatable (if you Google the English translation). Dean is a super great artist.

solo – jay park ft. hoody

Am I even talking about Korean music if I don’t mention Jay Park…(I could mention all of his songs here but I won’t, just have this one instead)

lonely – jonghyun ft. taeyeon

I already spoke about this song in this post so I feel like there’s not much more I can say here but…this is one of the most breathtakingly sad and beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. My heart aches every time I hear it.

take me higher – A.C.E.

Seriously, look at these cute lil babies…this is such a catchy song I must have played it 8000 times. LOOK HOW HAPPY. LOOK HOW CUTE. My heart? FULL. I’m obsessed.

don’t forget – crush ft. taeyeon

This song is so cute and lovely and just…it’s the nicest sound. I’ve had it on repeat. I love it. My lil heart. It’s exploding.
